We’ve been waiting weeks to share this blog story and are so excited the time is here! Finally!!! If you’ve been following us on instagram, you may have seen some of this basement design remodel in phases. We began this basement remodel with design concept boards and renderings (of course). Once we settled on the perfect look for this space, we moved into construction which consisted of collaborating with various contractors on lighting, flooring, and lumber. The entire installation and decorating process took 1 very quick month!
Our design concept for this basement was to create a modern but livable space. It was important for us to combine our own personal elements into the room by way of featuring our favorite movie posters and quirky decor.
Before our basement transformation, the space had very poor lighting. Three flush mounts spanned the entire 1000 square foot of space – not an optimal amount of light for that size of room. We worked with Custom Electrical Services to completely transform the lighting, turning three flush mounts into 13 recessed canned lights plus the existing four cans in the bar area.
Another major positive change was the flooring. Before, the basement had a combo of shag beige carpet and mocha vinyl plank flooring. We removed all the carpet and chose a lighter greige vinyl plank from Lumber Liquidators for the entire floor. One of our favorite parts of the entire space are those beams – cedar beauties! We chose not to stain or alter them in any way so the true smell and color shines through.
